The Unlikely Pair
If I were ever asked to come up with names of two musicians who I could never imagine singing together, it might well have been Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. Plant with his chilling renditions of Zeppelin songs in the golden era of solid Rock, and Krauss with her distinctively clear renditions of blues-y, bluegrass-y, jazzy collection of country songs.
However, I found myself delightfully blown away when I heard their re-workings on their collaborative album “Raising Sand”. What intrigued me was this unique pairing, and what hooked me completely were their distinct singing styles merging into nothing less then a music lovers orgy!
I grew up on Led Zeppelin, and I love both the loud and mellow Zeppelin. Heck they even lead me to Joni Mitchell (when I realized “Going to California” was written, sung, and dedicated to the special queen without a king). I realize that I won’t ever get a chance to see them live, but I get a chance to experience the next best thing. Tonight I will be sitting in the front-row in a concert where Robert Plant and Alison Krauss would be singing for me (and a few thousand others).
If I were ever to come across a genie, one of my wishes would be to re-enact Woodstock with performance by The Who, Jimi Hendrix (they were there), Joni Mitchell (she never made it there, stupid agent man) Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Bob Marley. Now this for me would be the kind of a concert that will enter your bloodstream and never let you get out of its aura.
Imagine the following songs sung live on one stage…
- Baba O’ Riley
- Boris the Spider
- Pictures of Lily
- The Seeker

Wow, this list was more difficult to make then I thought, and I still have so many songs I would like to add to this! But 50 seems like a good starting point. So RIL-ers how about adding musicians and songs to my Woodstock, and maybe we can conclude with the ultimate concert!
