2008Freedom Waters
Filed Under (Poems) by Noor-ul-ain Noor on 17-02-2008
Take me to the ocean one day,
And ask me to wade in shallow water
With you.
I will say no
Because I fear the tide
And the vastness of the waters.
They are too fierce,
They will swallow me –
And I am not ready
To be robbed of my existence.
I will tell you there are serpents
In the waves,
And they will crush my bones;
I am strong, but they are
Stronger and cold-blooded.
I will say no,
But you must hold my voice
And place it inside the ring on your finger.
You must walk against the tide,
Look back and say,
See, it is just water,
Deliciously cold against my skin.
Take me to the ocean one day,
But do not become captive
Of the waves;
You are never on your guard
And they are tricksy beasts.
They could steal the sand under your feet
And hide you in their depths.
You must take me to the ocean
Cautiously,
And show me that I can conquer it
Because I hear it in my dreams,
And it does not let me sleep.
Take me to the ocean one day,
And free me of my fears.
