2007Reaching Enough

Reaching Enough
We sit together,
Strangers over tea.
Clink of expensive china,
rustle of our morning papers,
creamy color of Lipton
With Half and Half,
smell of cardamom seeds
Swirled in your tea
Just the way you like it,
And silence.
You with your sports page,
And I with my crossword.
Today’s crossword is ‘hard,’
I may not get all the words.
I hum softly to myself,
And you clear your throat.
Our eyes meet over the edge
Of newspapers.
There is a storming instant
Of recognition,
Of walks in Japanese gardens,
And in tall cathedrals,
Small churches,
Smaller temples,
The smell of redwoods,
The sight of large red rocks,
And conversations,
So many conversations,
It felt like there would be no words
Left in the world.
And then the moment passes.
We sip our tea,
You read the sports page,
I try to find a seven letter word
For ‘pink.’
A memory whispers along my skin
Like a forgotten song,
Your voice, an octave lower than usual,
Your hand over mine,
Your lips above my ear, saying
“There is never enough time,
Never enough.”
We have reached our enough now,
Over our morning papers and tea.
ABOUT
Damn! Wow…nufff said…
10/10
That’s so sad…the state of apathy every relationship has to ride through. You’ve captured it beautifully.
Damn!

Women, you’re a wizard with words!
This reminds me of what someone said to me… that everthing has a limit and that one reaches the limit sooner or later.
It’s sad reaching the limit of love in a relationship, because after that point there isn’t much left.
AWESOME!
