Kathak

27. Feb, 2007

Kathak

I am color.

Splashes and swirls,

All captured in a body,

Harboring a storm.

I hear the first beat of tabla,

A soft drum-like noise

Sighing through the air,

And then there is music.

A vibrant union of sound

That runs through me

As my arms unwind,

And slash the air

With unleashed vigor.

My feet leap and land

With a swift, feral grace.

My long hair flies

In pursuit of my body,

As I twirl and spin

And step on the floor.

My movements are of

A large cat on her throne

Circling,

Tormenting,

Enticing

Her prey.

The percussion and strings marry,

And the sound seeps into me,

Captivates me,

And comes out in a final flourish

Of emotion.

The music stops,

And I fall and spill on the ground

For I am color,

Splashes and swirls,

All captured in a body

That has painted the blank canvas

Of empty floors

With the dance of passion.

    Wow well captured. Powerful ending

I would only change this line

    With unleashed vigor.

I was thinking more on the lines of
    “My vigor now unleashed”
Maybe it can be phrased in such a way that it communicates that there is a fire or vigor deep within the dancer that you cannot see in him or her in normal life and it only unleashes itself once he/she starts dancing.

That a lot to communicate in one sentence though :)
